Destination Innovation: Visa explores the future of payments and commerce – hub style

This month saw the first Visa Innovation event held at Stockholm Fintech Hub. It attracted a wide spectrum of members and partners and featured guest speakers from Visa, Nordea, Klarna and startup Funder – as well as our own CEO, Matthew Argent.

During the packed event, Visa’s Bill Gajda, Senior Vice President, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships and Henning Holtan, Regional Managing Director, Nordics and Baltics, presented a vision for innovation and the strategic partnership. Henning even summarised the event in a blog post on the Visa Europe website and reiterated the company’s support for Stockholm Fintech Hub:

“The hub is really coming together nicely and Matthew Argent (Founder and CEO) together with his team at the Stockholm Fintech Hub have done a great job. It’s a great space where we can work side by side with financial institutions, new start-ups, merchants and clients to collaborate on the next generation in payment solutions.”– Henning Holtan, Regional Managing Director, Nordics and Baltics

Doing it ‘hub style’ refers to the open attitude toward collaboration and ecosystem that Visa is exemplifying by driving innovation, supporting startups with its Innovation Everywhere campaign, and inviting a range of industry faces to the event. Visa’s doors (and minds) are clearly open and welcoming to third parties with the right mind set.

“Watching the video of Visa’s global aspirations and engagement in innovation was like having the front row seat when I saw Top Gun for the first time at 16 years old; deeply cool and excitingly disorientating. The event was impressively professional, sincere in intent and gave a real sense of an ecosystem based emerging future, where ‘big’ is no longer always best, and the facilitation of collaborative co-ordination is and will be the path and the goal.” – Tabitha Cooper, Strategic Business Developer, Nordea

As Henning explains in his blog post, Visa is also planning a series of breakfast talks in the coming months. They will involve discussions and guest speakers on interesting topics like AI in digital payments, security and authentication in biometric and mobile payments, pros and cons with a cashless society and innovation in contactless payments.
